Question:
I just had acl reconstruction and medial men. surg and I now have numbness from the knee down in a triangle pattern and a burning sensation with it. Could this be from the nerve block or from the surg itself?

Answer:
The sensation you are having may be from either the anesthesia or from the surgery. It depends on how long ago the surgery was performed. Very often, the outer, or lateral aspect of the leg becomes numb after the surgery. The nerve that traverses the knee area can be cut during the surgery. It is not unexpected. Usually, if there is any pain, burning or discomfort along with it, it resolves with time. The numbness may not resolve but does not pose any problem with the stability of the knee or the final outcome and function. Be sure to follow up with your surgeon if it continues to be a source of pain or worry.
