By Sheila Dwyer, Knee1 StaffTim Bowens will sit on the Miami Dolphins’ sideline next Sunday during the team’s game against the Oakland Raiders.
Bowens, a defensive tackle, underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair cartilage damage on his left knee on Friday, September 14th. He had similar surgery on his right knee one month ago.
Bowens first complained about his left knee during training camp. Doctors initially believed he had been favoring his right knee since he hurt it last season, and put too much strain on his left knee. Last season, he opted to play through his injury rather than undergo surgery.
Jermaine Haley will start in place of the 6-foot-4, 320-pound Bowens this weekend. Haley filled in for the injured Daryl Gardener last season and performed well. “Daryl was out last year for six games, and Haley was in there and we didn’t miss a beat,” Coach Dave Wannstedt said Sunday.
Bowens is considered one of the team’s top run stoppers.
