  • Serious Injury for Boselli?

    Serious Injury for Boselli?

    August 21, 2001

    By Sheila Dwyer, Knee1 Staff

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ Tony Boselli re-injured his surgically repaired right knee during Sunday’s practice, leaving his status for the season unknown.

Boselli, the starting offensive tackle, underwent surgery to repair his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in January of 2000, after injuring the ligament in the team’s final game of the 1999 season. He rushed through rehabilitation to play the entire 2000 season at less than 100 percent of his strength. This season he was deemed to be in top form.

The Jaguars did not reveal the extent of this latest injury, though witnesses said it appeared to be serious. Boselli fell to the ground in pain, screaming, before being carted off the field with his hands over his face. His knee was heavily wrapped and positioned in a bent position. The injury did not appear to result from contact.

“It was pass-protection on the backside,” said Jaguars coach Tom Coughlin. “He pivoted to take the rusher on. He twisted his knee.”

Boselli is a 7-year veteran. He was the Jaguar’s first draft pick when the team first joined the National Football League in 1995. He was an All-Pro from 1997-1999.

The loss of Boselli could be a devastating blow to the Jaguars. Coughlin lamented, “Why do these things happen to people who play as hard and prepare as hard as he does?”
