About the Knee Hero Series
Knee1 selects its heroes by identifying the top board-certified orthopaedic surgeons across the globe specializing in knee care. Each potential hero must be a proven leader and innovator in his or her field. Knee1 strives to maintain a diverse pool of heroes by actively identifying leaders from various parts of the US and incorporating internationals heroes as appropriate. Once featured on Knee1, the Knee hero becomes a constant presence on Knee1.com, reviewing content and providing information to Knee1 users via the Ask an Expert feature and online, moderated discussions.

Joseph Sklar, M.D.: The Knee from Every Angle
Dr. Sklar takes a proactive approach to his patients' treatment of and recovery from anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. He is the designer and co-designer of two fixation devices that anchor ACL-reconstructing grafts to the bones inside the leg, and has secured a grant from the National Institutes of Health to study the effect of a patient’s outlook on their recovery from ACL surgery. Dr. Sklar is a partner at New England Orthopedic Surgeons, and specializes in sports medicine and knee arthroscopy.

Jack Farr, M.D.: Restoring Fluid Motion to the Knee: Dr. Jack Farr's Cartilage Approach
Cartilage restoration has become a major interest in modern science—and the focus of Dr. Farr's career. After graduating from Rose Hulman Institute of Technology, he received his M.D. from Indiana University. He currently practices at Orthopaedics Indianapolis and serves as a medical advisor for Knee1.com. Dr. Farr was one of the first doctors in the Midwest to perform the Carticel procedure.

Kevin Stone, M.D.: Strides in Cartilage Growth and Repair
Dr. Kevin Stone specializes in sports injuries and is an internationally-recognized authority on cartilage growth, replacement and repair. A graduate of Harvard and the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, he is a founder and chairman of the Stone Foundation for Sports Medicine and Arthritis Research. Since 1988, Dr. Stone has been a physician for the U.S. Ski Team. He has also served as the physician for the U.S. Olympic Training Center.

His fields of specialty include sports medicine, arthroscopy, and knee surgery.

Dr. Jürgen Toft: Pioneer in Knee Biosurgery
Dr. Jürgen Toft is one of Germany’s preeminent knee surgeons and is renowned as a pioneer in biosurgery of the knee joint, which emphasizes repair generated from the patient’s own body. In 1985, Dr. Toft founded the Alpha-Klinik for Knee and Spine Surgery in Munich. He has saved more than 4,000 knee joints in his career.

Dr. Tim Kremchek is the Medical Director and Chief Orthopaedic Physician for Major League Baseball's Cincinnati Reds. He is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and completed an Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship at the Alabama Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham. Dr. Kremchek practices at Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine in Cincinnati and currently serves as the Director of Sports Medicine for the TriHealth System of Good Samaritan and Bethesda Hospitals, as well as the Medical Director for the Firststar Center in Cincinnati.

Dr. Laszlo Hangody: Revolutionizing Cartilage Repair in the Knee
Dr. Hangody is the Senior Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon at Uzsoki Hospital in Budapest, Hungary. He also lectures and presents his research findings through Europe and the United States and sees patients at his private practice – Sanitas Private Clinic – in Budapest. This year, Dr. Hangody was elected President of the Hungarian Orthopaedic Society. The main focus of his current research is cartilage repair and revision surgery of Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injuries. He pioneered the mosaicplasty procedure as a way to repair damaged knee cartilage.
