@jaisquared: I suggest you go for an MRI. Cause i had a similar incident with me while playing basket ball. After my mri it showed grade 1 acl tear, i felt it wud heel, and continued to play basket ball after 6 months and i was able to run and jump to some extent and i had an injury to the same knee as it was unstable if i take longer or higher jumps, i went to the doc just finished my orthoscopic he advised me to go for 3 months of rigorous physio therapy and if the knees still unstable either go for surgery or leave the sport.

I'm sorry to hear that! An ACL sprain is still a partial tear of the ligament. If you want to know the full extent of the tear, an MRI is the best way to go. There are different grades of sprains. Even with a basic sprain, you still might need to rehabilitate the knee before you can play soccer. It is very dangerous to resume the activity without consulting a doctor and having an MRI done if he sees it necessary. After all, a partial tear can become a complete tear if you are not careful.

8 days ago I was playing in a soccer game, I was going for the ball, I had my leg planted, and went to make a quick movement out of the opposing girl's way. Well my leg was planted so my knee went one way and my body went the other. I heard or felt a pop, I have no idea if I actually heard it or if I just felt it but I know it was there (does that make sense?). It was a big pop. As soon as I felt/heard it, I remember thinking to myself that something is seriously wrong. I immediately hit the ground in excrutiating pain. I couldn't walk at the time or bend it, everytime I bent it there was a sharp pain. I went to the ER (veterans hospital, not the best of healthcare), he said it was sprained but I have an MRI scheduled, but not for another 2 weeks.

It doesn't hurt anymore to walk on it, at all. Sometimes if I move a certain way I get a sharp pain. The next day after the injury, I was able to wobble around, just like pressure on my big toe, none on my knee. The swelling is basically all gone, it never doubled the size or any crazy amount but it did swell for about 6 days. The last 2 days, randomly Throughout the day I have felt pain in it. Yesterday I ran about 15 feet just to see if it was better or not, it hurt a little, it just mostly felt weird. It's a feeling I can't explain. I'm sure you guys know what I'm talking about.

I've read stories where some people don't even experience pain and have a torn acl..Or those who get up and walk around after the injury. I definitely couldn't get up when I got hurt.

So my question is, do you think it is just a sprain, should I cancel my MRI appt? I just want to get back to playing soccer!
