I there. I had a lateral release and Tibial Tuberosity Osteotomy operation done 7 weeks ago. The first month for me was the worst; I couldn't walk or bend my leg. But PT has been so essential. Each week I go back and realise how far I've come. I'm now bending 105' and am walking normally, driving etc. stair climbing is still hard. So please don't feel too dejected - it will get better quicker than you think. If you'd like to know anything else, feel free to e-mail me. I can only tell you how I felt, but would be happy to offer my own advice.

Is there anyone out there that can share a success story about a lateral release? I am new to this web site but so far all I've read is negative, horror stories. I had a LR done 4 weeks ago yesterday (2/23/05) and it has been a real struggle. I must say that I've had very little pain but lots of swelling and I still can't put much weight on it and not even close to walking, therefore I'm still on crutches. Just started PT last week and my therepist told me I should have started PT a few days to a week out of surgery but I didn't know. My doctor waited almost two weeks out of surgery and then decides to tell me that I might want to start PT and he put me on an anti-inflammatory. The main thing that I am very frustrated about is the fact that my Dr. told me that I would be walking in two to three weeks out of surgery. I feel that I was greatly misinformed by my doctor. I can't wait for my next Dr.'s appointment on 4/7/05 because I plan to let him know that I feel very deceived concerning the recovery time. He told me prior to the surgery that a LR was a simple procedure but I now know thanks to this web site that He LIED. It may have been a simple 20 - 30 minute procedure for him but DEFINITELY not for me. The knee guru web site said it takes at least three to six months for total recovery time. Could someone PLEASE give me a positive report. THANKS!!
