In May 97 I was involved in an r.t.a. and suffered injuries invluding the following, severe compound fracture of the knee, including open fracture of the patella, open fracture of the medial femoral condyle and medial ligament damage, displaced intra articular tibial fracture involving tibial tubercle and tibial plateau with anterior cruciate avulsion, soft tissue damage of the front of upper leg, fracture upper left fibula. In March 99 I had a successful arthrodesis operation and would be interested to hear from anyone who perhaps has suffered similar injuries or is awaiting similar surgery.

My husband had simalar injuries after a motor vehicle accident in 1994. He had a fracture of the tibial platue, fixed with a bone graft, and internal fiaxtion. The Doctors said his knee would never give him any trouble until later in life when the arthritis would set in. In march of 2001 he has arthroscopic surgery to see what was going on. His knee was locking and giving out, and he had severe pain. They found a tear in the minuscus on both the medial and lateral side. The ligaments are all either streched or torn. The arthritis on the lateral side of the joint has almost filled the gap. They will not do a total joint replcament because of his age (27) and the doctor says the only way to go is arthrodesis surgery. He says 2 years and his joint will be gone completly. The catch is they will not immediatly do this surgery, nor will they go and repair the minuscus. for the time being they have him on non narcotic drug therapy with now help. He is still in pain. I was just wondering what we can expect from the arthrodesis.
