I would definitely agree, there are iPhone and iTouch applications for pretty much everything. I cannot believe that you can buy an application that will help physicians review for their recertification exams! It seems as if a handheld electronic device should not have that kind of power. I know that there are a number of applications out there having to do with the medical field, in fact, I found one that is supposed to supply doctors information about diagnoses and therapies in order for them to provide better care for their patients. This makes me a little uneasy that doctors and medical professionals have the option of referring to an application when dealing with their patients.

I am curious to hear about others' feelings about all these medical applications out there. And, if you have used one or some, what are your thoughts?

It’s amazing how big of a phenomenon iPhone applications have become in today’s society. Apparently, Dr. Frank M. Griffin, a private practice physician at the Complete Knee Center of Arkansas as recently created and released two iPhone applications ‘designed to help residents and physicians review for recertification and orthopedic training exams, as well as keeping their practice skills sharp.’
Apparently, the applications cover a number of different topics within the fields of sports medicine and general orthopedics, focusing trying to incorporate a large amount of information into each question, making sure that they help with memorization as well.  To read the full article, click here.

This phenomenon will definitely change the way studying is approached, which kind of worries me.  How will this turn-everything-into-an-iphone-application phenomenon change the way exams are built/structured?
Suddenly, everything will be multiple-choice, making it easier for us to then use computers to grade things instead of grading it by hand.. essay-writing will become obsolete.. oh dear.  Personally, I find that qualitatively, multiple-choice exams aren’t very accurate at calculating how much you know/learned.
