mmrussell,
I don't know what you ever did about your Synvisc questions but I thought I'd share my on going experience with this. I am working on my "good " knee (the other one had a knee replacement and got staph, etc, etc, etc,...long story) with Synvisc now. Synvisc did NOT work at all for my right knee (the one that eventually got replaced) but I thought that it was worth a try. I've had two injections in my left knee now. Last week, the first injection did great. I had a lot of pain the first night, after the marcaine wore off and it didn't help that I was working that night. (I'm a nurse in a hospital and work night shift) This week, I had the second injection and am experiencing a lot of pain and swelling. Feels like there are 50 rubber bands wrapped around my knee and are squeezing tight. I looked on the internet and typed in "problems with Synvisc injections" and the very same symtoms I'm experiencing were talked about on many sites. Apparently, only about 25% of ppl suffer this side effect but it can be long lasting. I'm not sure I'm going to let my OS inject the third time next week. I'm nervous about it.
Hope you're doing well.

Hi everyone, I've had lots of knee problems -- 4 arthroscopic knee surgeries, plus 1 lateral release, more than enough physical therapy -- and my knee still hurts! I think at this point it's just from wear and tear of my cartilage and bone, nothing that needs a surgery. I have been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Arthritis which is similar to osteoarthritis, and have heard about something called Viscosupplementation, where a doctor gives you 3 injections every few months that create a cushion between your bones where your cartilage should be (I'm 20 years old and I only have less than 20% of my cartilage left in one of my knees).

I requested some information on Synvisc, a particular brand that makes these injections, and I've learned all about the procedure, etc. but I don't know it's reputation. I'm sure it's not a new thing, but I haven't been able to find any reviews of it. Has anyone had these injections and what did you think of them? Would you recommend them? How long did you find they helped? Any side effects?
