Hello, I am an 18 year old athlete and I discovered that I had OCD when cartilage and a bone fragment broke loose from my femur in October, 2003. Once I found out that it was OCD, we tried to have the bone pinned back onto the femur, but the surgery was unsuccessful. Due to this, we decided to wait one more year before we had the bone graft procedure so that I could finish out my senior year of sports. Now, it's nearly 1.5 years later, and today I had a knee scope operation to remove some loose cartilage, and my doctor discovered something that seems impossible. He said that the crater where the bone and cartilage was missing had completely healed on its own!! Now I, thanks to us waiting a year, won't have to have the bone graft procedure. He had never seen anything like it before, and I just don't understand how this is possible. We thought there was no way the bone would heal that much on its own, and cartilage is never supposed to just "grow" back. My question is, has anybody ever heard of this happening ever? Or is this some kind of medical maricle? I'm just in disbelief at the moment. Thanks for any replies!!
