I'm not sure how helpful the brace would be for you, but you could always ask your doctor about it or check out the official website for the brace.. the link is at the bottom of the post, but just in case, here it is again:
I know you said your appointment was on monday but i just found some information that you might find useful... you should read this article from boston.com..
Maybe you could try platelet-rich plasma therapy? it's still a very new method that is undergoing trials, but i think you might be interested because it doesnt involve surgery or anything... Where are you located? Maybe you could join one of the trials or something..
I hope this helps.. =) good luck!

HI I had R knee surgery 15 years ago. I have had osteoarthritis for 10 years, severe bow-legged, an over 25% gap for 2 years, and am bone on bone. (in one area, I still have some cartilage left on the arterial) This means walking 1 block is a pain level of 8.5, in fact my leg usually just does not work when I try. ( Yep I have all that other annoying stuff going on too, cracking, creaking, and Gravel to name a few.) Tripping is a way of life when your leg refuses to move. I'm tirid of graining weight because exercise is out of the question, except some old physical therapy exercising I still do.
My biggest problem in getting treatment seems to be my age, 45. I don't want to live on pain killers. I just want to hike and take walks again. I love kayaking but I love hiking too! My dad had double knee replacements and it said it was great. He also took a lot of meds before hand and got an ulcer.
What options are their other than 1) meds, 2) physical therapy, and 3) surgery. What questions should I ask when I see the doc on Monday? Are their other people in my age bracket that are facing these conditions?
