Your MRI and xray sound exactly like mine, but I don't have any "catch". I'm also very active (I teach tennis and play tournaments), and am 54 yrs old. Six weeks ago while working out I "strained" the outside of my left knee. I've been keeping off of it, but every time I try it out, it is painful. So today, after reading about trying to keep up normal activities, I forced myself to go hit some tennis balls, and voila, the pain went away.....at least for now. We'll see in the morning, but I'm thinking that maybe by not doing my normal stuff, I'm just making it worse. I hope so!!

yep. I also have knee problems...INLUDING knee catching under kneecap. Arthritis IS one cause, also extreme alignment defect. At your age (only a hair over mine)its likely the begining of arthritis. Meaning, your doctors are correct. Sorry. -jj

I am a 52 year old female...active around the house and yard. 5 months ago I started having severe pain in my right knee. It would "catch" when rising from a chair or going up steps and would constantly ache. After several sessions of PT, I went to a sports doctor. X-rays showed nothing. MRI showed "suspicious" area on the outside of my knee, but not suspicious enough to warrant surgery. Doc said I could be starting to develop arthritis. Went through 7 days of oral steriods. No help. Had a cortisone shot which lasted for 4 weeks. My knee still "catches" frequently and hurts constantly. Now my doctor wants to do the Synvisc injection (which after reading some of the posts on how much it hurts I am very leery). I am still not convinced this is arthritis. Have any of you experienced the "catching" of your knee (right under the kneecap)???? Thanks for your input. Sheila
