Hello,
I had arthroscopic surgery with microfracture on my right ankle/talus April 19. Doc says there is NO cartilage left in the joint and my best options are fusing the joint or ankle replacement. Anyway, I was full weight bearing after two weeks. Initially, the joint felt really good and I was very optimistic. However, as time passed the pain returned in spades!
Doc told me on 15 June to go back to non weight bearing for 4 more weeks as there is still healing going on in the joint.
So I've been back on crutches since then. However, I think I was weightbearing too soon and I think it messed up the microfracture. So when I go back to the Doc on July 18, I'm going to ask for another shot at microfracture as a remedy with nwb for at least 8 weeks. It seems to me that I can always have more radical surgery if microfracture fails again.
Here's my question: how long should I wait before having second micro fracture done? I'm set up for an appt with ankle replacement Doc on 19 Sept and I'd like to know by then if microfracture stands a chance. That would mean having another micro fracture done right away. Is it ok to do it so quickly? First one 19 April, second one 21 July?
thanks for any responses!
