My surgery pain subsided in about 72 hours. I ended up getting blood clots in my lower leg, and that hurt bad!

I ditched the pain meds as fast as I could. I don't like the side effects.

Be careful with the weight bearing. That is the biggest thing my OS and physical therapist keep telling me. I've been very good about it. I'll be 3 weeks on Wednesday and they told me 6 weeks. I may even stretch it a little longer. I don't want to have surgery again.

Since this is an older post I just found, what have your experiences with driving been?

Hi,
I never had crutches, but used a walker for four weeks and a cane for four weeks. I have been walking unaided for two weeks and doing great. Still some trouble with stairs, but even that is coming back slowly with the help of physical therapy.

As far as pain meds, I am taking Celebrex daily and have been since the surgery. Once this refill of the prescription runs out, I plan to try without it and see if I still need it.

Immediately after surgery, I took percocet fairly regulary, but was able to stop after about a week, except for at night when I could not get comfortable enough to sleep. I still take them occasionally if I have had a very active day and am aching, but last time I saw the doctor, I told him I did not need anymore pain med prescriptions. My surgery was April 25th.

The thing that helped me more than anything was water aerobics. I started back two weeks after surgery and it was a lifesaver. I had to figure out how to get in and out of the pool but it was well worth it. Good luck to you. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

I "dumped the crutches" after two weeks and deeply regret it.

At first, the ankle felt so much better I was sure that the microfracture was going to fix everything. But after a few days of very active use, the pain returned and was more fierce. All that I read said 6-8 weeks nwb is best.

If you consider that the bone is first creating a scab and then that scab is morphing into a form of cartilage, it's best to give it plenty of time to heal.

Of course, this is just my experience. Your mileage may vary.

Greetings,

4 weeks after microfracture procedure, am preparing to bear some weight on my leg. Hardest part is inactivity and not being able to drive.

Light at the end of the tunnel has me hopeful again, but am concerned about prolonged pain med-use. What level/duration of pain have others experienced after dumping the crutches and how have you managed?
