It looks like your thread is highly active and you've got a couple surgeons responding. I highly respect both doctors. Keep plugging away with questions!!!

Patrick, thanks for the link. It looks like this is just ACL injuries, but I'll post anyway.

arizona,

Post your issue here: http://factotem.org/cgi-bin/kneebbs.pl

I love both of these forums but the other forum is frequented by surgeons, researchers and others in the field of medicine. You might be able to get some answers/options there! Keep your head up and stay persistent.

p-dubs_uw, thanks for the encouragement, but I've been to several surgeons, and they have no answer. Most OSs will not see you after another OS an performed surgery. I've contacted the Steadman-Hawkins clinic, and have been denied as a patient.

At first all of this just seems like a nightmare I'm going to wake up from, but I haven't been able to wake up. I'm currently begging OSs to give me a TKR (knee replacement) but no one will. I've been stuck in this condition for coming up on a year, and I know my knee is getting wose, but I can't find any OS that will do anything to help me. I don't think they purposely will not do anything, but I think they do not want to pick up someone else's (another OS's mess).

I just ask PLEASE if anyone has had any type of experince similar to this, let me know. I don't know how much longer I can live like this, with no hope of anything changing.

arizona,

First off I'm really sorry to hear about the hardships you're going through. Secondly, NO YOU SHOULD NOT BE STUCK IN THIS CONDITION. You need to find another surgeon IMMEDIATELY. Don't hesitate to get multiple opinions from other surgeons. You need to get your life back. Don't leave it in the hands of an incompetent surgeon.

Yes, I was very strict with my NWB for 8weeks. CPM machine (8hrs a day for 6 weeks), and all PT. When I was given the green light to walk on my knee at 8 weeks, I felt an extreme pain in the knee area that was not there before. I'm close to 1 year post op, and still walk about 70% of the time using crutches. It has ruined my life, and my OS (Dr Cumming TOCA in Arizona) refuses to perform a TKR, but also claims there is nothing he can do. He claims the procedure worked perfectly and there is no reason I should be having this pain.

I'm bascially just stuck in this condition, and have really given up all hope of it changing. What really frustrates me is that this is a surgery I was not told about prior to going in the surgery. I'm just hoping someone has had a similair experience and can point me to something.

I was non weight bearing for 6 weeks also and was able to walk without the crutches at that point. I had my ACL done several years earlier....the tingling you are talking about sounds like what I had too.......my doc said it was because the "pump" that works to remove fluid works while weightbearing and since I was NWB, it slowed down. Once I started putting weight on it, that tingling and calf irritation went away within just a day or too. It bugged me like crazy though until then. He put me on Lasix to help in the mean time which did help alot. I feel for ya though.......that is alot of surgery at one time. At the 5 week point I started putting my foot down on the ground, still without weight on it but just to get used to having it on the ground. It helped get rid of the crutches for sure!
Good Luck and keep us posted!

I hope your doing better...it sounds like it was a nightmare. On Dec 31 I had r knee acl allograft and I also found out after surgery that he did the microfracture. I am only less than a month out from surg but some things beside the pain concern me. One being the needles feeling in my foot and the shin pain also the pain along the r side of my thigh above my knee....and the cold calf and foot. Did you go through any of this after your surgery? I am using crutches no weight b for 6-8 weeks. Did you start to give up the crutches at 6-8 weeks and then what... you couldn't walk or do you need crutches to walk? Would like to hear what the first month or two was like for you. Take care and thanks.

I'm pretty bad. I can't walk without crutches and it's now been over 9 months. I tried those injections and they had no effect. I also have gone to pain management doctors and been tested for RSD. I rcently had a bone scan, and nerve block injections that have shown litle resut.

I don't want to scare people away from microfracture, but I was able to walk, ride a bike, and do limited activity before micro. Now I pain that constrians me to laying on a couch all day. I can't work, and I have my doctor TOCA (Dr Cummings) has no idea what he has done.

I went in for ACL surgery May 11, 2007, and when I came out of surgery I was told I also had microfature on the femoral condyle region. I followed all the PT, CPM machine stuff and everything, like the doctor prescribed.

Since surgery I (8 months ago) have not been able to walk without the use of crutches. I have extreme pain in the area where the surgery was performed, and my doctor just scratches his head likes he has no clue what he has done to me. Microfrature surgery has basically ruined my life, and I’m not sure what options I have. I’m 34 years old, and have been told that a total knee replacement is “ridiculous”, but what else can be done?

Has anyone else gone through microfracture surgery and come out significantly worse than they ever were before?

Is it possible to have some type of bone infection or failure that could cause the pain?
