Hi, I had an abrasion arthoplasty 9 weeks ago. Does anyone know why a doctor would do this procedure over a microfracture? The micro seems much more popular. thanks!

Hello there, After an abrasion arthoplasty you would need atleast three month on crutches without weight bearing ... to let the articular cartilage grow without hindrance ....atleast this is what our surgeons indicate after this type of surgery. It is obvious that when you run around on the knee without letting the knee to heal you will have problems.....

I had abrasion arthroplasty done on Oct 11,2001 it is now Jan 17 2002. My surgeon told me I could return to work on Nov 26 I waited until Jan 2 since returning I have alot of swelling in the knee and it extends to the calf area and foot is this normal. My job requires alot of walking as I work in a busy airport. My question is how can I manage the swelling there are days I think I will have to crawl out of the airport. Thanks aggravated in KY
