Thought i'd throw out my status 15.5 months post op.

Brief history - mine was an acute injury - happened roughly 80 miles into a 100 mile run in
July, 2007. weight-bearing defect on the femur. Surgery in sept. 07. Relatively uneventful
recovery for the first 6 months - CPM for 6 weeks, non weight-bearing. No running for 4
months.

Worked hard months 6 - 10. 11 months after surgery did my first post-op trail marathon.
Sept. 08 a 50K with 12,000 feet of elevation change on trails, and 13 months post-op
achieved my pre-surgery recovery goal of a double Grand Canyon crossing - 44 mile run
across the GC from South to North rim and back.

Bottom line - it's a tough surgery to rehab and incredible amounts of patience required; It
takes a really long time. However,I'm still noticing improvement as my strength gets better. Looking
forward to a spring 50 miler, and if i continue to progress perhaps another 100 miler next
fall. There is life after this surgery!

Best of luck to those of you out who have recently had the surgery or are contemplating it.
It's a long recovery but very much worth the effort. Many thanks to Wolf and SanDiegoSteve -
your two guys posts really helped to movate. To quote the late great Jim Valvano - "Don't
give up - don't ever give up"
