Don't worry about any looks your PT is giving you. Clearly you are concerned with the progress of your knee and you are trying to improve its flexibility. (What's the "M" word by the way?) Therapy goes differently for everyone, don't give up! It can be a frustrating experience, but it will be rewarding in the end when you're on the other side of 73.

Hello, I was just reading your comment to a member and thank you for answering the questions that I had....My knee was replaced on 1-18-12 and it is really frustrating trying your hardest to bend and it just won't give...the cpm machine bends the knee nicely, but when I try to bend on my own I am back to stiff in a matter of seconds....I thought that my therapy was going okay, but now it seems like my pt gives me that look like I'm not really trying, or if thats all I can give than why should he bother..Or am I just being paranoid about it..I am really scared that my doctor is going to suggest the "M" word...I just don't know what to do....I've been through a lot with my knees and sometimes I feel like I shouldn't have had the knee replacement at all....Your comments to the other member gave me a little hope and courage, thanks...Any help appreciated, stuck at 73 degrees

Depending on the severity of your prior injury it is very possible it will take many months for you to fully heal from surgery. If you keep up with physical therapy exercises and stretches this should gradully help with your limitations while helping to prevent futher degeneration. However if you are feeling more than minimal pain doing this I would revisit your doctor. Pain and stiffness is not necessarily uncommon. But if exercises are not followed scar tissue can build up and harden, causing your range of motion to become limited. A knee manipulation is done when physical therapy exercises don't increase your range of motion. During the quick procedure you are sedated and assisted in bending your knee as far as possible to release the hardened scar tissue. A physical therapy program follows surgery and must be followed to restore flexibility. I hope this helps. If you have more questions feel free to ask.
