Wow thats alot of surgeries. I did my first and hopefully last menical repair April 09 and i'm 24. From reading up my injury i have come to realise that this thing might never heal all depending on where the tear is. There are some that just wont heal because of the lack of blood supply to parts of the meniscus. In those cases a menisecotomy is gone to remove parts or all of the meniscus. This MIGHT lessen the pain and amount of surgeries done. But the bad thing about it is u increase getting arthritis and stuff like that so in the end its not a pretty sight for us. We just have to take good care of our knee and hope and pray it will feels better. I am 9 weeks post surgery and i'm still on crutches i tried to walk without crutches the other day and days after i'm feeling the effects. As i said before we need to take extra care of our knees. Take care and good luck

hey i'm 22 years old and am going in for my 6th meniscal repair tomorrow on my right knee.i know what you mean when you say your so young and is it too much to ask to be able to walk.i have had chronic knee pain from reoccurring meniscal tears since i was 15.i've been off and on pain medication since then...i went through physical therapy like 200 times and it only made it worse.i've also had all the injections....and tried off the counter vitamins to strengthen my cartilage and nothing seems to help.my surgeon just informed me this time that i'll be lucky to make to 30 without a knee replacement.i've come to realize that this is going to be a lifelong situation, and i'm sorry i'm the one to have to tell you this but i don't wanna lie to you,and that the surgeries are only short-term fixes for the pain because they have to be repeated every so often.i just wanted you to know that you not alone in feeling like your young and you should be able to get through a day without pain and suffering.believe my i know i have to small children...girls 2 and 6 months....and if it wasn't for them i wouldn't get out of bed everyday because the pain is so bad.well good luck in whatever you choose to do!!!

Hi everyone....im rather new on here. I found this forum while searching for answers about my knee pain. I am only 21 years old, and have already had two separate surgeries for meniscal repair of my right knee. The first time about 10% of my meniscus was removed and the rest was cleaned up. About a year later, I began to experience pain again and went to see another doctor. After an MRI showed further tearing, I had surgery again to repair. Now, a year later, I am experiencing pain almost constantly. I am a college student who will be off to Law school next fall and do not want to be inhibited by such pain any longer. After my last surgery, my doctor told me to get a desk job. At 21 years of age, is it too much to ask to be able to walk?

I would love to avoid any further surgery, but I have begun to think that there's got to be an answer. Any thoughts? I see there are newer surgeries to use synthetic or harvested cartilage-but they all are for those who do not have ANY meniscus remaining....I still do. Is there anything I can do? I'm young, and still hopeful that this will not be a lifelong situation.

Thanks in advance guys!!!
