I have had a similar problem. I had a meniscus repair in May 2006. In October, I started to have lots of knee pain. I went back to my doc. and he said I was weak and needed more physical therapy. I didn't understand because I had returned back to soccer and was getting stronger with each practice. I went to a different doctor and he said I had scar tissue. So, I took some different medications which didn't help at all. Then he began to give me shots in my knee. They helped short term. By this time it was Feb. 2007. I was in more pain than I was in October. I got into a new doctor (this was going to be my 3rd doc.). He had me go in for an MRI. It showed that I had some tears in my meniscus. He decided that I needed to have surgery. I had the surgery and came to find out one of the sutures from my meniscus repair was missing, and he couldn't find it. It had been in my knee causing trouble and most likely caused those tears. I was then diagnosed with Chondromalacia. I was told that I couldn't play soccer anymore. Soccer was my life! Well, this isn't even near the end of my problems. I was doing just as the doc. said and wasn't playing soccer or doing any running for that matter. September 2007 rolled around and I was having pain again. I went to my doc. he had an MRI done. He said he couldn't see anything, but something was definitly wrong. He sent me to a more experienced doc. who looked at the MRI, but he couldn't see anything. We told him I had a menisus repair and that one suture was missing when I had my other operation. Right then he knew what was wrong. I went in for surgery Nov. 2007. Sure enough he found that suture that had broke loose. It had roughed up all the tissues and cartilage in my knee. I went to physical therapy and did what I was supposed to do. In May 2008 I had some patellar tendonitis so I went back to physical therapy. I was doing th elliptical for one of my excercises. I had a killer sharp pain in my knee. I went to back to physical therapy because my doc. was out of town. My therapist told me that I just pulled my hamstring really bad. I didn't believe him. I went to the doc. in June. He walked in the room after getting my story from his intern. He said so when do you want to do it? Implying that I needed surgery. I went in this last Tuesday. He didn't find any floating sutures or anything like that. He found roughed up tissue on my bones. I have now been diagnosed with Osteoarthritis. Chondromalacia is an earlier stage of Osteoarthritis. All I can say is good luck! I have been suffering with knee pain for two years and my doc. said this definitly isn't the end.
