It is quite possible that you have done extensive damage to your knee by letting it go so long. I was in a similar sitution (not by choice) my OS would not reconstruct my ACL. I also had a torn MCL. I rehabed for about 3 months and was then released to play sports. I played my Senior year season of soccer in alot of pain. I was supposed to play soccer at a D1 school in the fall, so I was doing a lot of training and running. When I was running I noticed that I could no longer run corners or cut sideways. I ignored it until I got to school. I was at practice and was having major knee problems. My knee kept giving out. I saw our athletic trainer and he sent my to another orthopedic surgeon who diagnosed me with a torn ACL, LCL, and posterolateral complex. I had surgery in jan last year. It went really well, but It was really hard. My ortho said that if the ACL had been reconstructed in the first place, I would have had no further problems. THe MCL did heal on it's own, but poorly. I retore that in september.

After two year of rigorous exercise on a complete tear of the acl & mcl, now I am having a lot of pain. I am wondering if I have done more damage by letting this go on for so long.
