Well, 3rd opinion (from an experienced physio although not a doctor) says it's a partial tear that's healed badly and scarred. Let's hope he's right - in my region there's a 15 week wait to get an orthopaedics appointment, then 6 months on top of that for an investigation. So we'll see. I managed 90 mins of goalkeeping on sunday and am a bit sore but got through it OK (man of the match in fact :-) ). Rachel

Your symptoms (and your experiences with medical personnnel) are very similar to mine when I had a torn medial meniscus. After months of my knee progressively getting worse--to the point I had to give up soccer/running/etc--I insisted on a MRI, which revealed my medial meniscus was completely detached. I had surgery on the knee to reattach it, and the knee feels great today.

OK, Thanks for that. An MRI's probably out of the question - I live in the UK and I think you might just be able to get one if your leg actually fell off... I am walking around and functioning OK, just sore and unable to play sports. So I'd be way down the waiting list. But I have an appointment with a different PT next week so I'll mention it. Anyone here from the UK? How many GP visits did it take you to get a referral, and how long did you have to wait after that?

From your reported symptoms it does sound like you might have mensical involvment. Many of the manuel tests for mensicus tears are not that precise. I would suggest getting a second opinion and/or an MRI.

About 5 weeks ago I sprained my MCL playing 5-a-side football. There was no pop or tear that I remember, just a lot of pain and some swelling. I did RICE, took NSAIDs and had some ultrasound and friction massage from a sports therapist. Both the sports therapist and my doctor found no laxity or evidence of meniscal damage. Cruciates are fine. The swelling's gone down but I'm still sore along the joint line and often feel this dull, bony pain inside my knee, especially after sitting or standing for a time. My question is; from such a minor sprain, why am I still in this much pain after 5 weeks? I keep telling my coach that it's only going to be another week, but it just doesn't seem to be getting better. Am I just being impatient, or should I get a second opinion? Thanks Rachel
