I had the Zimmer TKR last April, and it has worked out extremely well for me. I no longer have any knee pain. Recovery was very quick for me because, like you, I have always been very active, snow skier, cardiovascular workouts, keeping my quads and hamstrings strong. I am quite sure that I could ski if I wanted, but don't think it is worth the risk, as much as I love skiing in Colorado. One week or two on the slopes is not worth 50 weeks of pain and limping. Now, there is nothing I can't do. The zimmer knee is American made, and as far as I know, there have never been any lawsuits against the device. My surgeon likes zimmer but said the others are good, also. I recovered so quickly from the surgery, going up and down steps at about two weeks, and range at about 118 at 3 weeks. Now, I have full range. My doctor said it will be even better at 1 year, and better still at 2 years.
