Hi Becky my name is Betsy and I have had constant pain for about 5 years post knee replacement. I was curious to know who your Dr. was at the Mayo Clinic as i may have to have a revision. I'm glad you are doing so well. Getting out of pain is a blessing. Betsy aka Lizbet56

Wow! How time flies! It has been almost a month already since my surgery, so I thought it would be nice if I checked in and let you all know how I'm doing....which is nothing short of amazing! I feel great except for some depression about being stuck home all the time and not being able to drive. I am a pretty on-the-go person as a rule, so this is a HUGE sacrifice for me. Sometimes my daughter or husband will take me out and it is SOOO nice even tho' you ought to try and fit a casted leg in a car comfortably. Oddly, Tom's Ford F100 pickup has the most leg room. Things that make you go "Hmmm".

My leg feels wonderful and I have no need for constant pain pill therapy. Now I just take a hydrocodone on occasion if I feel I need it. It is so nice to be free of the constant haze I was in! I feel very stong and am very optimistic about the outcome of this surgery. Maybe, just maybe, this is my last surgery. I have been so thankful for everyone's prayers and feel confident it has made all the difference. Get this....my scar looks perfect - like it has been there a year already. No redness at all!

All's well except for the depression part so keep on praying for me.

Becky

Hi everybody, I got back from the Mayo Clinic and Methodist Hospital yesterday evening. We did not have any trouble getting there, and , because we left yesterday, we dodged the storm that was supposed to be there today. We rented a van and put an air mattress on it so I could lay down whenever I wanted to.....which was all the time. I slept almost all the way home except for the torture of needing to go to the restroom in rest areas. I'm quite unsteady on my cast in the beginning. They also asked me at Mayo if I knew anyone who could put on a new cast if this one ended up not fitting well! Now, that was a vote of confidence for me! (it is going to be fine, I think).

Now, as for the surgery. My surgeon was SOOOO pleased with how it turned out! He said it was as good as it can get and now all we have to do is see how it heals. It really hurts and the pain is hard to control, so they tried something a little different. Every three hours for now, I take Oxycodeone (Percocet without the Tylenol) and then rotate with Hydrocodone which lasts longer. It seems to work well, so I am happy for now. I get my staples taken out here at my primary care physician and go back up there in 5 weeks.

So, thank you all for your watchcare. For now, all is just fine.....considering!

Becky,

I like to think I am on pretty good terms with god as I asked him to help make my knee surgery go problem free and to guide my surgeons hands. He listened because I am doing fine. I will ask him to do the same for you as you have been through enough already.

Good luck and my prayers are with you.

hi becky---
oh most surely i will put you in my prayers with a few extras thrown in!!!
my family is very familiar with the mayo clinic, and both methodist & st mary's hosp. i know you're there for serious stuff, but one thing we always try to do to get some enjoyment with a trip to good old rochester, mn, is to go to a steak house called "Michael's. it's an EXCELLENT steak house, with chops, fish, etc. and they have pretty reasonable early bird specials, which my father always insists on. just thought i might tell you about that little gem, as it does help our spirits.
good luck to you brave lady, you've helped soooo many of us here thru the past 2, going on 3??? yrs, and know we'll all try to repay you however we can, right now with prayers.
i'm somewhat close to the area, and i think it sounds like you'll hopefully? have good traveling weather.
best of luck, love- laurie

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family Becky. What a time you have had. Hopefully this will be the last surgery you will need for quite some time. My prayers are going to be to keep you free from infection and to heal quickly during recovery.

God Bless You.

Well, here it is. The day we drive to Rochester for my surgery on Weds. I'm very nervous about this all but mostly about the possibility of getting infected again. My bones can't take another TKR after all that has been happening. Please, everyone, pray for me and my husband Tom who has been a pain already and it hasn't even been done yet. We leave today, testing and Dr. Visit is tomorrow and Tuesday is Big day of surgery. Thank you all for your concern. I count on it for encouragement!
