Hello All, I am happy to say there is nothing but good to report this visit to Mayo Clinic!! First of all, I was blessed by a friend who went with me to help drive and we just had a wonderful time! Next, came the visit with my surgeon. He was so happy to hear that I can bend my leg to 90 degrees ONLY, that he did away with the full leg brace and put me in a rehab brace that only goes mid-thigh to mid-calf. And, the settings are 0-90 degrees with NO drop locks to prevent me from bending my leg when I walk! You know what this means? I can almost walk like a normal person! I do still have to use my red crutch (he would prefer I used a cane but I'm not very secure with one yet). I do NOT have to wear the brace to bed any longer and my sleep has improved dramatically, surprise surprise! All of this for only two more months which is a drop in a bucket for me - hee, hee.

So, all in all, I could not be happier than I am right now! Thank you all for your loyal support and encouragement. Everything would have been so much harder without it! I promise to keep in touch thru the Forum, and help were I can.

Love to all, Becky

Yes, I was at Mayo yesterday.....what a trip! And great news....they were thrilled about my knee bending; however. Dr. Lewallen wants to protect my knee for the full six months so things stay the way they are. The original plan was to give me 20 degrees but because I was doing so well, they gave me 45 degrees instead!! Plus, I go back in June and they are having a new brace made that is lighter and not so confining to finish the protection! He said it would not be so hot for me. Now, THAT I can live with!

Laurie, why is it that I never registered that I was so close to you when I go to Mayo? I don't know about you, but I would LOVE to visit you during one of my trips! How about in early June?? I have a feeling we would have a blast! What do you think??

Thanks for keeping up with me and my long, long legacy of knee surgeries. Wow, this one makes 15 surgeries in 10 years. It seems like forever, but I'm on my way to be able to walk like a normal person!

hi becky--- this is one of us "oldsters" on this forum. you must be on your way to mayo's today for your apt. wishing you good luck, and hopefully good news about your 90 degree range of motion. i know what you mean about the WARM weather one day this week. it was 91 degrees here in yankton, so dak.
i surely do hope you don't have to go thru all summer with the brace! i
if my memory and calculations are correct you will be about 35 miles from my home on your travel to the mayo clinic.
my best for you this week,, becky. keep us posted.

Well, folks, this may be one of my last trips to Mayo to check out my knee implant. Right now I am wearing my full-leg brace with 0 degrees bend. I go on Sunday for my appt. at Mayo when I am supposed to be allowed 20 degrees bend on the brace. I am going to have to tell my Surgeon that it has already acheived a 90 degree bend that was the goal. Now, he is either going to be pleased or very worried about that since the whole affair of bending it slowly is supposed to take 5 more months. I really don't know what to expect except I PRAY that he will call it good and do away with the brace. It was hot for the first time yesterday and I thought I would die from the heat on my leg from the brace. It would be a miracle if I don't have to go thru the Summer with this heat! So, I figure, once again, that God knows what is best for me and whatever it is...I will do as the doc orders.

Hope all is well with you all since I don't see much activity anymore. For anyone reading this for the first time - you have hit upon the best Web site out there for advise on knee replacements or complications. We really are here and watch this site often for anyone who needs our help....so don't hesitate to post!
