Dear Anna, Here I am....16 surgeries after my first ACL surgery when the doc used my pateller tendon. This surgery is to try to correct my extensor mechanism so I can walk again. You name it and I have had it done over the past 10 years including three total knee replacements due to infection! In answer to your question, yes, I am still in chronic pain and taking 10/325 hydrocodone while recovering from my last surgery. If this one does not work, I will quit trying and go to a pain clinic to try and control it. That is all I can think to do.

Becky

I am a 32 year old female with a history of knee problems. I had my first ACL reconstruction at 17 yrs which was a Dacron Mackintosh procedure. Shortly afterwards I had a lateral release on the same knee. Then, at 24 years old, my ACL failed again. I had it replaced with a hamstring tendon. At 30 yrs, my ACL failed once again and I had it replaced with my patellar tendon. One doctor told me I had arthritis in the knee, another said I did not. I am having chronic knee pain and taking Tramadol everyday. I went snowboarding two weeks ago and did just fine, except for the pain. However, the swelling is excessive and never goes away. I don't know many people with multiple surgeries that can relate and give advice. Is there anyone out there? Will I be taking pain meds for the rest of my life? I would love some advice.
