Based on what I've read, I was thinking it might be the IT band as well, but luckily I managed to get an MRI, and now they're saying it's Baker's cyst. There is no visible inflamation or soreness to the touch, but their is pain when squatting with the feeling that the bones are pushing themselves apart, and soreness/stiffness after long periods of sitting (like on a plane). During the day, walking, and running there is no pain.

Hi om 31. I was a field goal kicker and i had pain in the back of my right knee. The painwas behind the left side of the right knee. THe mri was inconclusive, but the doctor during a physicalm exam located the problem. The I.T. band. He preformed a Z of the I.T. band a the pain was gone. Ask your doctor about the I.T. band

Hi. I am a 29 year old male who has never had any problems, and have been playing soccer and running all my life. Last month, after taking a month off I took a Taekwondo class. I don't remember anything happening during the class and I walked home normally, but for a month now I've also had a pain in the back of my right knee, I can't squatt all the way down, and have trouble pulling back my leg to strech my thigh. There is no swelling or water in the knee. I have full strength and no pain when I walk or go up and down stairs. My doctor suggested that there might be something wrong with the tendons and that I should try strength exercises for my thigh (leg lifts).
I am a little skeptical and the other day I when I fell on my leg forcing it all the way back (which would be fine on the left side) there was a lot of pain, and soreness the next day. Do you have any more information?
Tony

Hi. I am 44 year old male from Atlanta who plays squash 3-4 times per week. About three weeks ago, I developed pain in the back of my right knee. It really hurts to squat all the way down to my butt and can't hold the position because it's painful. I had an MRI yesterday, so we'll see next week when I go back in for eval. The doctor said that absent any injury during squash, it might be a tumor. Others say, Baker's Cyst. It's sore and occassionally throbs throughout the day. I haven't played squash in over 5 days, and it's still there.
I am curious--what did you get back from others on your symptoms?
