I'm glad everything worked out for you! Good luck with the rest of your recovery. ~Erin~

Hi Erin I've been put in a cricket pad splint to immobilise my knee which is really uncomfortable, so I can't wait to get out of it!! I go back in on Wednesday to see the specialist and I think he will be arranging some physiotherapy for me then (and hopefully removing the brace!!). My knee was out for over 1 1/2 hours this time which might be why it is taking longer to get better!! The fact that they had to forcibly straighten my leg to get me to hospital (and that no-one there seemed to be aware that it was still dislocated) probably didn't help much either!! :-) The doctor gave me a sick note by the way and didn't laugh!! - thanks for your help and encouragement!!

Yes, surgery is definitely scary, haha. It is weird how the severity of dislocations can vary. I have some dislocations that I can just limp away from, and others can't put any weight on for weeks and take months to recover from. The correlation I can find is how long the kneecap was actually out of place. The longer, the more severe. Are you in an immoblizer or brace to give support? Are/will you go to PT? ~Erin~

Thanks!! - I feel a bit better about asking him now!! Funny thing is I dislocated my knee much more severely when I was at school and was absolutely fine - up and walking straightaway with no aftercare!! I guess it does weaken them when it happens though as I now get pain from both knees (they have both dislocated in the past!!), but at least I could walk afterwards!! I guess I am just getting old!! No surgery planned as yet but I am really worried they are going to suggest this at my next check-up (as it seems I am prone to this happening) :-( ...very frightened about the thought of having surgery!!!

Hi! You're not crazy! A dislocation is major trauma. I've been there many times. Some dislocations are worse than others for some reason. I would definitely talk to your doctor about the certificate thing. He won't laugh at you. He knows what's wrong with your knee. What surgery are you having? Good luck! ~Erin~

I know this is a really stupid question to ask but I badly dislocated my knee 2 weeks ago and have been put in a brace and am on crutches pending further consultation and physio. I lost my temping contract due to the fact I couldn't get to work without driving (which I am not allowed to do right now). Couldn't do job properly anyway as I have to sit with my leg elevated and stuck out in front of me to get anywhere near comfortable and walking is slow and uncomfortable!! I have been told I might be eligible for Incapacity Benefit and would therefore need to ask my doctor for a medical certificate to make a claim, but, I don't want him to laugh me out of the surgery!! - is anyone else out there unable to work in this condition or am I just being a big woosss? [Dislocated knee slipping on a plastic dustsheet - remained out for 1 1/2 hours - worst dislocation pain ever since doing it at school between two desks!! Had to be gassed to get my leg forcibly straightened - hospital seemingly not told it was still dislocated on arrival ...so knee not feeling too good now and still swollen 2 weeks later!!] :-(
