I am 20 years old, and was diagnosed with chondromalacia at the age of 15. The pain never stops, no matter what I do. I've always been very active, playing soccer in elementary school, then moving on to basketball, then JROTC. I used to love running and playing sports, but now I only want to lay down with a heating pad. At 17, I joined the USAR and stayed in for 2 years. I lied about my condition to get in, because the pain was only nagging at most times, and only a severe issue on occasion. Now it seems that the pain is a constant problem and work is tiresome and painful. I can only take so many ibuprofen. It isn't just the knees anymore, either... my ankles are constantly in pain and there is the occasion pains in other joints.
I can not afford to see a doctor on a regular basis. I have no insurance, and cannot afford it. My question is, then, what can I do to stop the pain, or at least subdue it without professional medical intervention? I've tried the leg lifts and all that, but it doesn't help. Ibuprofen and anti-noninflammatory drugs don't help. Any suggestions?
