I know very little about Chonodromalacia Patellae. I have had knee problems my whole life and a very loose patella and knee that disclocates. I twisted my knee last week and havent been able to walk normally since and honestly, it feels like bone rubbing against bone. I dont see ortho for awhile so if anyone can help me understand these MRI findings a little I would appreciate it. My prior surgery was something to streghten the patella. just got back my MRI results. If there are any health care professionals who would like to help me understand some of this in laymans terms feel free to interpret. The nurse who gave me the print out didnt explain it to the degree that I really "got it" all. My ortho appointment is weeks away. Findings- There are extensive abnormalities involving the patellofemoral compartment. Significant chondromalacia with subchondral edema is noted, laterally greater than medially. Some susceptibility artifact is seen within the soft tissues along the lateral aspect of the patella likely indicating prior surgery. Abnormal morphology and signal intensity are noted within the distal quadricepts tendon and proximal patellar tendon near their patellar attachments. The finding could represent post surgical change and/or partial attachments. Correlation with the patients surgical history is recommended. The menisci maintain normal morphology and signal intensity. The cruciate ligaments and medial /lateral collatarel ligament complexes are intact. The remainder of the study is noncontributory.
