I injured my knee playing soccer at the end of October. My knee was locked for well over a month with very limited mobility. I had a knee arthroscopy last week and it was discovered that I had a 'damaged articular cartiledge.' I'm not entirely certain what this means or what the long term effects are. Has anyone else had this diagnosis? What treatment did you receive and how successful was it in the long/short term? I haven't really heard of too many people with this condition so any stories, advice, info would be appreciated.
So far the Arthroscopy hasn't done anything to restor mobility to my knee. In fact I probably have less now than before the surgery but I'm hoping that due to the post-op swelling. I also have a torn ACL which is being reconstructed in a few months.

I tore my articular cartilage during a soccer game two years ago... & had Microfracture surgery. Check out the Microfracture category on the left side of the page, but find a Dr who is familliar with the procedure & who can advise you correctly.

I have articular cartilage damage of the MFC. I had MFX surgery 6 months ago and it failed, the defect actually increased in size and the pain is far worse now than prior to the surgery. Now I am getting ready to have Osteochondral Allograft due to the size of my defect OATS wasnt an opition and neither was ACI because the defect is down to the bone (grade 4). Im not a big fan of MFX and wouldnt recommend anyone have the procedure. Do your research and get several opinions from different OS. Cartilage doctor . org is a great site as well as kneegeeks.com. Good Luck to you. Michele
