I had ACL reconstruction close to 6 months ago. Last week pain I've been having at the top end of my shin bone was diagnosed as pes anserine bursitis. I've gone to therapy a total of 3 times so far and have 3 more sessions scheduled for Iontophoresis (an anti-inflammatory- sort of like a cortisone injection). I've read that this usually leads to immediate relief of pain. My pain has not changed at all. Does anyone know if this is normal, or if maybe it was diagnosed incorrectly? Thanks- Stephanie

I had a similar problem after and ACL reconstruction. My doctor diagnosed my pain as tendonitis or bursitis. He wanted to give it some time and eliminate the possibility of tendonitis before treating for bursitis. It took several months for it to go away. I basically had to limit the type of activity I was doing, mainly I rode a bike and did low weight/high rep workouts (no running or jumping). It felt similar to a bad bruise and was located just below my kneecap towards the outside of my leg. Anyway, for your sake I hope that it is nothing serious.

Just a quick question- does anyone know how common it is to confuse pes anserine bursitis and a tibial stress fracture? My symptoms seem to fit those of a stress fracture more, and right now I'm being treated for bursitis w/o much results. But I'm not a doctor, so who knows!
