I can completely relate to your story - only I have a fantastic OS and he has reccomended an ACI for me as soon as my first arthoscopy surgery heals. I posted my story in the 'knee pain' section of this forum here: http://www.knee1.com/forum/Kne...strange_symptoms-19565 I have problems with the doctors not beliving me at first and it took 3 doctors until I finally had someone diagnose me properly. I am having my first arthoscopy next week and am scared stuff - especially since I have never had a good time with general anaethetic in the past.
I'm not sure what to expect, but the OS has assured me that an ACI is usually the best option. I am a only 26 and am active and healthy with a good BMI, I'm not sure if this affects the ACI though. As far as I could understand when my doctor explained it to me, age and weight really only affect how quickly osteo arthritus sets in.
I'm also really keen to hear from anyone who has experienced this surgery. I'm not looking forward to the recovery stage of the surgery, especially since I'm a teacher and can't take more than 2 weeks off work.

Hi yall, I am a 40 year old mom who works as a nurse. 9 months ago, I slipped on a wet floor and got an osteochondral impaction fracture. I had Microfracture and it failed. OS sent me to a specialist for OATS. So April 27 I went in for the surgery. When I woke up the OS told me the damage in my knee was too extensive for OATS, and all she was able to do was debridment. She referred me to another specialist to have either ACI or PKR. I dont know when my appt is Im told the new OS is reviewing my ops note and other records and I will get a call from them. I am really concerned about this I have such terrible pain, the OS put me on Oxycontin and it really helps, but since the scope, Ive been getting a locking, popping the PAIN. And man does it hurt. This is totally new and I cant explain it. The OS also told me the defect on the MFC is 4cm x 3cm, then I have a grade4 on the lateral trochlea, 2 grade 3 on posterior MFC, also bad chondromalacia ( which she cleaned up best she could). Can ACI even be done on multiple defects ( i guess so since thats what shes recommending??) I am overweight and I hope that doesnt keep me from having ACI. But your BMI isnt suppose to be over 40 for OATS either and my weight never came up. Anyway can anyone help me out there???? Im scared in pain and pissed off that I didnt get to have the OATS. Any stories suggestions ANYTHING please. Thanks Michele
