September 2004, I had surgery on Left Knee to remove cyst in the patella on the back side. At the time, he biopsied cartilage to send off and did an AMZ to re-align the knee. This operation left an 8X8mm section of no cartilage on the patella. Bone on bone crunching, popping, dislocating!!! Extremely painful!!! We have been fighting since the surgery with the Insurance Company Anthem BCBS. My Dr. has been appealing since day 1, and I recently started my own appeal. They would approve this ACI on any other area of the knee except for the patella. Where can I find information on studies or trials with results that physicians have done the ACI on the Patella? Along with my Drs appeals and research, I need to back up my plea with research.
3/6/06-After just 1 appeal letter from myself I was approved. Looking forward to doing this later this summer.
