Hey again, it seems to have taken a little longer for me. I'm back running again, sometimes with the patella taped, sometimes not. I am up to three miles, with some funny sensations at time and a little strain but hey am I one graeful person! You must be one healer, only six months and then running again! What a process, but I suppose I was a bit naive going into it as to the time recovery would take. I hope all goes well for you with your other knee. It's reassuring to see your confidence in the procedure that you would do it again. Thanks for the response and stay in touch.

Hi, its been a while but I just found your post. I had a lateral release in January of 05 on my right knee, and I was running by May of 05. I actually just had another LR on my left knee last week, and can't wait to get back up on my feet! Its frustrating and can be a long process, but the results are well worth it!

Hi Ceemac, thanks for the response. Are you running again or did your physio tell you that it would be six months to a year before you would be able to do that sort of thing. Sorry to hear of the freak accident. I hope your recovery is moving along well now. As you recovered from the lateral release, did you have a burning sensation in your knee or did you find that some days were good and others just awful? I'm five months on and things are slowly getting better but I suppose i am still just hoping all this works out.
thanks

I had a lateral release done in Oct '04. With it, they did another procedure. (I can never remember the name of it: medial something or other...) In my case, I went through about 3 months of intense physical therapy before hand. First to try to prevent the need for surgery, but then to make sure I was as strong as possible for the surgery/recovery.
For the most part, it was successful. The most important thing is to keep yourself strong.... physically and mentally. It was hard, but worth it. The downside is, during my recovery, I was involved in another accident which set me back again. I ended up having to have a TTT in February '05. But that was a freak situation, and the stronger you get, the more likely you are to have a good recovery.
My advice, make sure you are comfortable with your therapist. It's a relationship you'll need for a pretty long time. And be totally honest with the doc and the pt; they can't help you if they don't know everything!
If you need to chat, contact me!

Hi there, I had alateral release on July 4th and am still just walking and sometimes with a real burning in my knee (right). Is anybody esle out there going through constantimprovements, disimprovements with a burning knee or has anyone any good news after surgery and a lengthy healing process. I am a frustrated runner who is waiting to be able to go for a long walk (2 hr) or a short run. How long can this take and are there good results for people after the wait?
