I've heard a lot of negative things about a LR before having surgery, but wanted to point out to those considering it that the procedure appears to have worked for me and I'm six weeks postop. (It's so nice to have a stable knee!!!) My knee actually feels a lot better than the other one which I will probably have done in a couple of months. This procedure seems so controversial -- so many people have given me different opinions about it and, as a result, I put the LR off for about a year. I really think you need to have it done for the right reasons -- a tight IT band. At six weeks, I have swelling, but can walk for about 15 minutes at a time and stand for about 25 minutes. This is all normal. There doesn't seem to be a magic bullet with this type of surgery -- that the best thing to do is to pace yourself and let your leg heal. I won't start stairs until 2 monts post-op. So my advice for those thinking about the surgery is to choose an excellent knee surgeon -- get several opinions, be patient and don't put too much stress on the leg at first, and get as strong as you can. Let weights be your best friend
