Thought I should update this for posterity; trip went very well (even if it did make doing my physio awkard at times!).
Didn't experience any major problems with the leg and having been back a few days I'm glad to say none have arisen. Was a little apprehensive as the general directive is you should leave it 4-6 weeks after surgery (I was into my 6th week when I departed), however given my age and general physical condition my doc said I should be fine but advised taking an aspirin a day or two before the longer flights. Which I did.
I was somewhat religious about doing as many exercises to keep the blood moving and avoided alcohol and drank plenty of water during all flights.
Overall, the trip probably hasn't helped to reduce the swelling, but I still continue to make slow but incremental progress with the PT so all-in-all it wasn't too early to fly.

This thread should help answer your question. It discusses when you can bend your knee well enough to fit into the airplane seats as well as the risk of blood clots.
You should probably have a discussion with your doctor. Recovery is different for each individual and your doctor knows your case better than anyone else. He or she should be able to give you reasonable estimate.

Got some work coming up overseas that I can't really put off any longer. It's all office based so not too strenuous but just wondering when it will be safe to fly again after the op?
I'd be flying to the Middle East from the UK so approx. 7-8 hours flying time.
