HI,

I have not had this problem but I am a PT that treats post operative knee patients. The fact that you also had an MCL injury makes getting the knee straight more difficult. I hope you are doing prone hangs. This exercise should be done frequently (5 times a day). If you don't know what this is go to this site and look at the picture of the first exercise: http://www.joint-pain-solutions.com/knee-replacment-surgery.html

Obviously you didn't have knee replacement but the picture of the exercise is the important thing. I do believe that if you are consistent you will get there. It just might take longer than expected.

Good luck.

Camryn, Hang in there. Like Shredder said, you WILL get there. I had the same problem after having my acl repaired almost two years ago now. I just couldn't get my leg straight, and I kept getting stressed out, thinking I did something wrong and that it would be stuck that way forever. Well you know what? I stuck to my pt exercises and eventually I got that sucker straight. A year and a half later, I'm tearing up backcountry bowls on my snowboard, feeling 100%. On a crappy note, I did tear my other acl a few weeks ago, had surgery last week, so it's back to the pt table for me, and I've learned not to be as hard on myself this time around. I'm sure I'll still stress out about my progress, but at least now I know that I will make that recovery. Good luck to you Camryn!

Camryn-I tore my knee up skiing February, 2008; full acl tear and huge meniscus tear as well. I had surgery May, 2008 and like you I struggled with full range of motion and limping for many months. I felt very frustrated, like you, and was especially upset when people pointed out my limp and also feeling that I would never recover. I limped for close to a year post surgery. 2 months post surgery limping is nothing; we all recover differently. Believe me, you will recover fully. Your limp will go away over time, and your range of motion and knee strength will come back eventually. Continue to do your pt as much as possible, and even after your pt is done continue to work on your knee at the gym. It is 2 years now for me and each time I am at the gym I make sure to do special knee strengthening exercises. My limp is gone, my range of motion and strength is back, I am back to skiing like an animal, and I am 48 years old! You will make a full recovery!

I am currently 2 months post ACL/MCL repair surgery and I am in physical therapy trying to regain my range of motion and mobility. I am STILL walking with a limp and am wondering if that's normal after 2 months of recovery? I also am having a VERY hard time getting my leg straight...Has this happened to anyone else? is this normal? And if it happened to you what made it straight, and how long did it take? Thank you so much!
