The only reason not to get a brace is the price, and I think it would cost much more to injure your knee a second time.
You can also learn more about braces here and here.

Back in august I tore my acl, mcl, bruised my bone, and tore my meniscus as well during a soccer collision. I had reconstructive surgery using my hamstring back in december and have been clear by my doctor recently to go back in to sports. I plan on rowing this summer even though I cannot fully bend my knee which is needed to row and I also plan on eventually getting back into competitive soccer. I was just wondering if I should get a functional brace for rowing including mostly sculling (rowing with two oars) and/or for soccer. My father also had this surgery not too long ago and he got a brace and used it yet he is suggesting that I do not get a brace because my doctor says it is not necessary. However, I feel like it would be helpful for a sense of security, stability, as well as people knowing that you are injured and not to attack you. But I'm not sure if thats enough to drop that much money on a brace for. Please let me know!
