Hello everybody,

I am looking for people who have had Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction on at least one of their knees to take part in a study focusing on the effects and impact of ACL Reconstruction surgery on someone's Athletic Identity.

As someone who has had multiple knee surgeries, I am very interested in the psychological effects of such mobility impairing surgery and do not believe there has been enough research undertaken in the field. The hope for this study (which is part of an MSc in Psychology) is to provide a greater insight into the short term and longterm effects of ACL reconstruction on a person's sense of Self and Identity. If you have had ACL reconstruction surgery and would like your experiences to count towards our understanding within the field, your contribution is of value.

If you would like to take part in the study (which should take no longer than 15 minutes to complete), please click on the below link for further information. Alternatively, copy and paste the link directly into the address bar of your browser. If you know of anyone who may also be interested, then I would be grateful if you would notify them of this opportunity to participate:

If you have any questions (which are not answered by the information sheet, after clicking on the link), please contact me by email at u1037913@uel.ac.uk, and I'll be happy to help.

After reading your story taking drugs and surgery is not the best route to go, i know of people that have went through your same situation. I know some things you can do to really eliminate your pain and discomfort, to offer you a better quality of life again.

Hi:

I had an ACL reconstruction in my left knee on November 15, 2004. The orthopedic surgeon took the bone - patellar tendon - bone graft from my left knee. I had no patellar tendonitis with my left patellar tendon.

I had an ACL revision reconstruction in my left knee on August 3, 2010. Another orthopedic surgeon took the bone - patellar tendon - bone graft from my right knee.

At the present time, almost 9 months after the bone - patellar tendon - bone graft was taken from the right knee, I have patellar tendonitis with my right patellar tendon. I do not understand why I have patellar tendonitis after the graft was taken from the healthy right knee when I had no patellar tendonitis after the graft was taken from the injured left knee.

This patellar tendonitis hurts a lot. I have been doing physical therapy since my last surgery in August 2010. At first, it seemed to help with the patellar tendonitis pain, but now it does not help anymore. When the physical therapist uses what I call the "ultrasound machine", my patellar tendon hurts even more, which is strange.

I also tried wearing a brace designed for patellar tendonitis, but it is not very helpful. Local corticosteroids (gel) are not helpful either. I am allergic to oral NSAIDs.

I do not know what to do to stop this pain anymore, apart from taking my morphine capsules, which work, but only for a few hours. I heard there exists a surgery for patellar tendonitis pain. Is this true? Internet has a lot of information about surgery for a completely torn patellar tendon, but nothing about surgery for patellar tendonitis. Does it mean orthopedic surgeons do not operate on patellar tendonitis, except if the patellar tendon is fully broken?

Thanks for your information.
