My names Ian, I'm 20 years old with a torn ACL. This occured in 2008 and I chose not to follow through with the surgery when it occured. I regret it now because it has affected my whole persona of what i call life. I used to be an active skateboarder, snowboarder, and runner but ever since my accident ive been a couch king stuck on the most recent video games. Last year I graduated from Universal Technical Institute trade school for entry Level Technicians. I loved the time i spent there but it affected my knee for the worst.

What Im looking for is a well represented orthorscopic surgeon in the Los Angeles area that will accept HMO heath net who also perform an ACL Autograpgh with tissue graphed from my own tissue. I havent had luck searching for myself so im reaching out for some help or advice on the best way to go about this. I have read reviews of most HMO doctors that i have found with multipule negative reviews and it worries me that you really do get what you pay for. Im hoping someone can prove this wrong

Hi Odles,

Just because an orthopedic surgeon works for an HMO doesn't mean that he or she is bad! It depends much more on their qualifications! Have you checked out the resources available here? Or looked at these 9 questions to ask when chosing a doctor?

Ask for referrals, too. Since you were a runner, ask your running coach who they would consider as surgeon. Also ask your family primary care doc, and your snow board buddies, etc. Ask enough people who you trust and you will get a handful of names at least one or two of whom
will be members of your HMO's referral network.

Also since you are considering an autoograft (vs. an allograft, which cadaver tissue), you might want to read up on the various options - there's a good discussion here and a great video posted by SadACL here.

Post a picture of your knee if you can, BTW.
Good luck and tell us how it goes! NYAGP
