I am a 23 year old guy with a succesful carrer in a law enforcment. Any intelligent person would deem that a worthy reason to give up any sporting activites that would have the ability to cause long term injuries. Well unfotunatly I got that memo too late. On Thanksgiving in a Turkey and Testosterone induced rage I was throwing myself around like I was a ragdoll. Somehow I managed to make it through the entire game without being injured besides the normal scratches. While talking to my buddies after the game a group of other guys decided it would be hilarious to tackle me from behind while I was unaware of my surroundings. This being said that is when the injury occured, While being tackled my leg planted into the ground and I heard the unmistakable series of "POP" that I later read about and will forever haunt me. I have to say I dont remember how long I stayed on the ground prior to muscling up enough strength to get myself up and walk off the field. I surprised by how much the pain had subsided and wrote it off and a pulled muscle or relatively minor injury. I had to work the midnight shift that evening so I went and took a nap prior to my shift. When I woke up all I remeber is being in tremendous pain and looking at my knee to see it had mutated into this giant blob. Still being bullheaded I ignored the obvious signs something was wrong and got into my car and drove to work. I made it to work and threw my uniform on and limped into roll call. Seeing my obvious struggle my Sgt. called me into the back office where upon seeing my problem placed me on leave and sent me to an Urgent Care Center for Xrays. Well lets just say where im from Urgent Cares are not highly recommended. I was quickly shooed out of the office not 10 minutes after arriving because they were closing with the diagnosis of a minor sprain and that I would be up and running by Monday. Come Monday when I was not up running let alone walking I returned, this time seeing a different doctor who stated that it was probably just taking longer to heal and not to worry. Fast forward 2 weeks im getting anxious to get back to work and without a doctors approval was unable to. By that time the swelling had gone down and I was walking but I could tell that something was not right in my knee. I finally went to an orthopedist with the hope for the golden signature to send me back to work. Unfortunatly that hope was dashed when he quickly stated that my knee was "loose" and wanted me to recieve an MRI...Upon getting my MRI I was still convinced that there was No way I had a torn ACL becuase I had always heard you "knew" when you had a torn ACL because you couldnt walk without surgery...I guess I was wrong. He looked at the MRI and then at me and said the dreadful words..."Your ACL is Gone". Now heres the quick part of the story it took 2 long months for my insurance to get its act together and approve my surgery. The day of surgery finally came 3 days ago..by this time I had no pain in my knee except the occasional give out walking up and down stairs. I was so ready to have this surgery done and get on with recovery. I remember talking with my doctor and he said in a few minutes he would give me my anesthia and id fall asleep...that was the last thing I remember.. I went into surgery at 330pm and the surgery was suppsably done by 5pm..unfortunatly I had bad reaction to the anesthia which caused my blood pressure to sky rocket from its normal 120/68 to 189/80..dont know how it happened but to get my blood pressure down the decided to keep me under for another 5 hours and I awoke at 10pm... I was realesed around midnight and was taken by family to a hotel due to my apartment being on the fourth floor with no elevator. It is now 3 days post op and I am now weening myself off the oxycodine and starting to get more motion in my knee. I am extremly excited to start the recovery process and physical therapy and hope to return to work ASAP
