It sounds like you're being a perfect patient! You should talk to your doctor about when he thinks would be a good time to begin weaning off the pain medication, but here's an old discussion about weaning off of perocet and other pain medications that may help.

I had my surgery yesterday. Everything went as planned; acl autograft from my patella tendon and some meniscus trimming on both with more to the medial side. I got a spinal to numb me from the waist down and was asked how much I wanted to watch…I said no thanks and was knocked out for the entire procedure. The surgery meds wore off really fast and it was not the smoothest transition to other pain meds so I ended up staying the night which was fine with me. I got the Iceman which is awesome...fill it every 4-6 hours with ice. I began taking two Percocet every four hours and it has been great for the pain. I do not have any previous experience with pain meds and I like how the Percocet makes me feel. Not too drowsy, but definitely working on the pain. Sometimes I take it slightly early or later but it has been fine. The advice I got which I tested out was do not let the pain get too bad before taking the meds as it is tough to break the cycle once the pain gets worse. I have no brace and it has not been an issue, but I would probably feel a little safer when I walk to the bathroom etc. but the reality is I have not been up very often. My leg stays elevated and straight. I am basically doing about 4-5 exercises every few hours as it fits into my other things like meds, bathroom trips meals, etc. I am doing quad sets, heel slides (in bed), some leg raises but not too many as my quads are not so strong yet but are working. I am doing hamstring contractions by pushing my heels down with my legs straightened and also some glute squeezes that are not that hard to do. And I am constantly rolling my ankles around to keep the circulation going. More of the same planned for tomorrow and then Friday I have my first PT appt. That’s all for now, I am excited to be on the way to recovery and for the short term, I am looking forward to my stationary bike perhaps tomorrow or Friday I will at least sit on it and see how it feels. I don’t expect to be able to make a full revolution until maybe the weekend. A recent follow up for today is I have now been taking percocet dince Tuesday and I am sensing that I need to slow down the dosage. Pain still seems strong so I am unsure how to proceed. What do you think?
