Hello Terrence- I tore my ACL (also sprained MCL and tore meniscus) in March 2009, and had surgery last July 2009. Before surgery I rehabbed myself up to the point where I had almost full ROM and leg strength was back to normal (leg pressing about 240). I had mini-arthrotomy procedure with BPTB graft (i.e., procedure done through graft harvest slot). Post-op I had significant swelling and pain in front of knee. Numbness on sides of knee (numbness still remains somewhat now 6 months post-op). Nevertheless, I can jog and leg strength is near where it was pre-op. Still having trouble building muscle mass in quad of reconstructed leg. I've found that what seems to help me most is the following: 1) stationary bike, 30 minutes per session on medium resistance. 2) leg press (or squats once knee is feeling stable) not too much weight, just enough to get the quad to contract strongly What types of exercises are you doing besides the pool?

i did the same to my acl and meniscus doing long jump. But i had an allograft. I had my surgery on may 7. So i am about to hit seven months. My knee always seems to be a little fatter than the other, but it only gets really swollen when I'm active. i do still have pain when i run around the kneecap and the longer i run the more it hurts. It also hurts when i step up on something like stairs. i still have so much pain on the inside of my knee when i fully bend it or pull in against resistance, i feel like it will never go away. This could be because i also fractured the top of my fibula. But yeah so i didn't really answer any of your questions but i still have pain at almost seven months so your not alone.

I tore my ACL and damaged the meniscus in my left knee while playing basketball. I had my orthoscopic ACL surgery on May 14, which the graft came from my hamstring, also the doctor cut off a piece of meniscus. My road to recovery seems to be going very slow; I have been dealing with loads of swelling right above my knee. The doctor took a sample of the fluid and the results were negative for infection. I have been doing everything my physio has given me and being an athlete, I am making sure I don’t overdue it! I spend loads of time in the pool with an aqua vest jogging in the water for non impact training. My major problem is, at almost 6 months I still can’t jog or even think to run! I have a lot of stiffness on the left side of my knee. Has anyone had the same symptoms? I received an MRI today and the doctor says everything looks ok. I know everyone’s injury is different and heals at different rates, but at 6 months, is this normal? I feel like I am way behind the time it takes to recover! Any help or advice is greatly appreciated
