PCL injury
Hi -
I'm a 30 year old very active woman. I partially stretched or tore my PCL a year and a half ago playing inline hockey. After doing PT for the past year, I was up to an almost full recovery. I was running some road races with my Donjoy Playmaker PCL late last year.
But three weeks ago, I was free skiing and took a jump and messed up the landing. A ping in the knee, but no inflammation. About a week later, a session on the rowing machine caused a lot of pain in the knee that has stayed with me for about a week.
Anyway, I just ran the bout of doctors at my HMO. It looks like I damaged my PCL even further, causing an instability in my knee. My knee slopes forward and backward, which is most probably why the rowing machine caused some pain in the cartilage (my diagnosis).
Anyway, the current therapy is that I'm getting an upgrade to a Donjoy Legend PCL, more PT, and see in a month if my muscles can re-compensate.
I've heard about the new radiation treatment to shrink ligaments. Any news on how well that works for PCLs? The Xrays aren't showing exactly what the type of damage in my knee is. But my ortho doctor is being cautious and not going for surgery unless it's necessary.
How is the recovery from surgery? As I mentioned, I'm pretty active in sports (skiing, snowboarding tennis, Ultimate, inline hockey & skating, running, etc.). So whatever solution can retain the most athletic capability is the one I want to go with.
Suggestion?
ps. I really like idea of the Innovation Sports CTi2 brace with the ski boot attachment. Has anyone used this? Recommendations over the Donjoy Legend?
