knee dislocation and lateral release

In mid June this year I dislocated my knee, twice in two days, on hoilday in Italy. I was put in plaster, came home and the plaster stayed on for 4.5 weeks. I have been in physio for 7 weeks and a recent MRI scan has showed up that that I have probably torn my Anterior Cruciate Ligament but my surgeon is not to keen to do ACL reconstruction in women over 40 - I am 45. My knee bend from physio is now very good but my knee is still very unstable and I am still on crutches (so nearly 3 months now) and I have still have not returned to work. My surgeon has now suggested arthroscopy to assess all the damage and he believes I may have also damaged my Medial Collateral ligament. At the same time as doing the arthroscopy my surgeon is going to perform a knee cap lateral release this is hopefully to provide more stabilty to the knee as my knee cap tends to pull to the right and may dislocate again. Can anyone out there tell me if they have had a similar injury and the treatment that I am about to undergo and what their results are. I'm very grateful to receive any emails and advice - thank you.
