Oh, my aching knees
I have always been very active up until about 21/2 years ago. I was on a diet in which I lost about 60 pounds. I felt great. I also reached menapause at about this time also. My family and I went on a trip camping in Colorado. We spent the time hiking, fishing and generally having a great time. On the way home, I noticed my knees were aching terribly bad. They also felt very stiff. After about 12 hours in the car we got home. The next day when I got up, I could not hardly get out of bed. My knees hurt intensely with every step I took. I have had knee problems every since that time. I had arthroscopic surgery and the doctor told me that my joints did not look good. I took shots in one knee in order to help me grow more cartilege. I took five shots in one knee and then started on the other knee. After one shot in the other knee, I developed a severe allergy to the shots and broke out in a terrible rash all over my arms, neck, and back. The doctor discontinued the shots. I am at my wits end. I have tried to excercise but I cannot walk more than 50 feet without having to sit down. I can ride a stationary bike. I have also been in water walking which makes my knees feel better but certainly not well. I am so depressed because I can't seem to do anything. I can not stand for more than 5 minutes at a time. Standing hurts me worse than walking. The Orthopedic doctor tells met that they are trying to develop a pill which will help one grow new cartilege. If anyone knows any information about this pill, will you please let me know. I have had terrible allergies in the past, but now I do not have allergies. It seems as if my allergies left me and the knee pain started about the time I hit menapause. I don't believe this is coincidental. I believe their is an actual connection between hormones, allergies, and arthritis. Any information on this aspect would also be appreciated. I try to lose weight but without being able to excercise vigorously it is extremely hard. Help.
