Patellar Reallignment/ Tibial Turbercle Transfer Surgery

I recently underwent surgery to correct the malallignment of my knee cap. It has been called a Patellar Reallignment or a Tibial Tubercle Transfer. I think they are the same thing. Anyhow, everything went well and I would recommend the surgery for anyone needing it granted they are seeing a good doctor. The recovery was tough and pretty painful but it was nothing that pain killers couldn't handle. I had to spend two days in the hospital just so they can make sure you are able to get up and use the restroom. I do recommend that you have someone arranged to spend the first week with you at all times. It is very hard to get around and you cannot lift your leg. They shaved off a part of my tibia which my quadracep was attached to and moved it over about an inch and reattached it using two screws. I had to have additional bone anchors put into my knee cap due to the tissue being very weak. The incision was about nine and a half inches long and went vertically up my leg. There were 31 staples holding it closed. It has been just over a month now and i am about to get started in physical therapy. I am no longer wearing an immobilizer but still have to use crutches. The pain is pretty much gone. If anyone has any other questions or would like some info on this surgery, feel free to email me at kimmielou1979@msn.com I wish you all the best!
