Depression and Knee Injury
I'm a 16 year old senior in High School from the southern end of West Virginia. I tore my ACL, medial miniscus, and destroyed the cartiledge in my right knee. I first hurt my knee playing volley ball, kept going, hurt it again the first night of basketball practice (not including conditioning, and then hurt it turning in a hallway at school. As a normal teenage girl I worry about my physical appearance. I am not able to run now because I'm on crutches so I've tried restricting my diet to vitamins, fruits and vegetables. I've been going through major mood swings. I can't even stand to sit and watch my friends play a basketball game anymore. The physical pain is nothing compared to what I'm going through emotionally.
I was put on a home bound program through my school. This means I stay at home and do my school work from there. I've dropped all my extracurricular activities (basketball, softball, soccer, rodeo, horse back riding, concert band, marching band) and have felt very limited in what I can do. I feel like nobody understands what I'm going through although everybody claims to- I was depending on my knee to hold out so I could possibly get a scholarship through sports. That isn't looking too promising now.
