Lymphedema I am afraid that I have been blessed with considerable pain and swelling since my knee replacement in October of 1999.I went to a breast cancer meeting(with my wife) where we listened to a physical Therapist lecture on Lymphedema in breast cancer patients. The more she described Lymphedema the more that I realized she was also describing the problem with my knee. Lymphedema is caused by the removal of lymph nodes due to some types of surgery. Evidently my knee falls into this category, although the surgeon said he had never heard of it. Anyway I went through the treatment for Lymphedema which consists of massage and wrapping. It helped my condition immensely although I am going to have to go back for more treatment soon. I would suggest that if you are having any trouble with your knee and leg swelling that you look into the treatment for Lymphedema. Take it to your family doctor. Most Orthopedic surgeons have not heard of the problem nor do they want to hear of it. If you can't get results then e-mail me and I will try to help you through my contacts with Physical therapists. It has been treated in Europe for many years. My German physical therapist at the Rehabilitation Hospital had heard of it and had been taught to treat it even though she had not practiced it in the USA. I understand that out of every 100 knee replacement operations there are about 2 that have problems and I guess I am one of those 2. Bummer!
